Can Creativity be Louder than Self-Doubt?

I find myself quite often doubting my worth, my imagination, and yes…even my purpose in this world. This might be influenced by my creative mind, or by my neurodivergent traits….or by all of them together. There’s really no point in ruminating about who took over my thoughts today 😅.

In the last year (actually since this May), I have been going through a lot of changes, but mostly, I have tried to live as best as I could according to my values and my gut. 💪

I own now a few “tools” to help me with my difficult moments, but my toolbox 🧰 definitely has space for more ideas in there. It’s okay, I know that there’s some things that can be discovered when it’s their time to shine…so I’m doing my best not to rush ideas anymore (I’m only human after all, and yes…I’m not always patient).

Coming back to my question: can creativity be louder than self-doubt?

I don’t know if creativity is louder for me, but it has a way of swallowing up the noise in my head, absorbing my creative energy, and eventually leaving me at peace. 😊

The reason why I play with so many art mediums is truly because I have too many interests 🫣, but also because my hands & my brain tell me every single day what texture they want to feel.

Sometimes I want to slow down and watch watercolor move timidly on paper. Sometimes texture paint makes my art feel real. Sometimes wool felt helps my need to punch something😅. There are moments when clay helps me breathe and shape my ideas, while bright colors bring me joy, and are easier to understand to my brain 🧠.

I don’t know if these activities quiet my doubts, but they definitely help me place them somewhere so I don’t carry them with me for days.

Maybe that’s what art will always do for me, and for now… all I want is to make others realize that creating art is not about being viral, not about getting rich (fast or slow). Art, in whatever form we choose to practice it, is just a place that can hold our thoughts so we can all feel a bit lighter at the end of the day
